AEGIS is above all else a quite singular incubator. We support independent grassroot projects, activist initiatives, non-profit organizations and social enterprises towards becoming powerful forces able to drive positive change in their communities.
WHAT WE DO
As an incubator our mission is to provide the legal structures, frameworks, tools and networks needed by activist groups and non-profit initiatives in order to make an impact. Through the incubation process, the objective of our organization is always to support the cause and the people fighting for it, while taking care of redundant bureaucratic needs and making sure to eliminate unnecessary expenses by delivering a lot of what is needed to grow a cause through pro-bono in-house support and production.
Because we believe that the classical norms of non-profit fields are built on out-dated, counterintuitive and wasteful models rooted in corporate mimicry (which rarely works out well in situations where compassion needs to be the focal point), we have redesigned our approach from the ground up. We chose to prioritize the way people actually think when they get ready to make an impact for their communities and the way causes and societal needs actually arise and evolve. On top of that we decided to focus on the strategies and digital scalable tools that we need the most in order to harvest solutions, educate, raise awareness and help heal our world.
AEGIS is not your average incubator, and maybe it is not for the least independent and proactive people. It is definitely not for those who don’t understand that building something that lasts demands a lot of hope, courage and stamina. But it is definitely for the effective motivated teams and optimistic big thinkers who want to make an impact. We do not offer a formal scheduled program that you need to follow along, because that is not how life works. Whatever you need to do to help solve societal and environmental problems, we will help by structuring your cause’s brand and positioning, development strategy and functional toolkit as well as taking off your hands everything that relates to administrative and legal needs so that you can operate just as if you were an established NGO straight away. Your sole focus in this arrangement: doing right by your cause.
The end goal of the incubation is whatever the result needs to be for your cause — to create a long-lasting positive impact on your corner of the world. Once your initiative is working well, you can decide to become your independent non-profit entity, or choose to remain under the AEGIS Alliance to eliminate the running operational costs that waste so much of the non-profit fields’ resources over time and get people stuck in a fundraising-focused mentality instead of an altruistic mindset. Our priority is to revolutionize the non-profit sector for the long-run, and keep it from being illogical, wasteful and inhumane. There is no one model that fits all cases yet, but every new situation helps us develop new strategies, structures, theories and framework that we can scale.
Our belief is that creating change in our world is hard enough. We do what we can in order to support and help develop philanthropic projects and initiatives until they actually want to or are ready to become independent organizations.
LONG TERM VISION
In the long-term, beyond our direct support to altruistic individuals and groups, we are working towards ways to provide an automated and open incubation platform and resource library that is free and accessible to all those who want to bring positive change to our societies.
HOW IT WORKS
We work with projects and initiatives from around the world, and this is part of the reason why we stick to 3 principles :
- You can apply to join the AEGIS Incubator at any time.
Life doesn’t care about deadlines. Things most often just happen suddenly and for this reason we do not limit applications to our incubator to specific application periods. - Apply from anywhere. We all collaborate remotely.
We are all connected. There is no point limiting our action to locations as our focus is mainly on digital tools and methodologies that can only win in efficiency by being challenged with adaptations to new places, cultures or governments.
Our only current limitation is one of language. Applicants must have a good enough mastery of the English language (or join forces with team members able to be a translating intermediary). - We are people dealing with people.
We avoid wasting time in the kinds of formalities that require projects to fit into specific molds before they are considered as worthy. If you and your community are spending your precious free time trying to address a cause of suffering, you are probably doing something right and your endeavor is almost definitely worth trying… so we will do our best to support you. Remember that here, our aim is to stick to what altruism should be and not the business-first framework that it evolved to be. The premise under which we began is rooted in the belief that the modern state of the non-profit landscape is deeply flawed and we need to rethink its norms and frameworks. So we started from a place of human experience, nature-centric beliefs and pragmatic applications of technology. Since then, we kept reasoning from there.
Here, we are people willing to volunteer and do things to support others, and we want to know if you are too. Most times that will be the primary thing we will evaluate.
